SEDONA BORZOI
Puppy Philosophy:
At Sedona, our Borzoi and puppies are part of our family,
not "breeding stock". We have no human children
only zoi kids :)). They are born in our home
and raised there as well.
We provide the ulitmate in care and socializing of our precious zoi babies.
It is important that each borzoi puppy go to the best forever home they can
so we interview potential puppy parents as well as requiring an in home visit
prior to any puppy being adopted.
All of our puppies are placed with a contract and show pups on a co-ownership.
We require a fully fenced yard of ample size for proper borzoi exersize
and freeplay for proper development.
We ask for a Veterinary referrence as well.
Our puppies are guaranteed for health and we will take back any puppy if needed
for the life of the dog. You will be very pleased with the wonderful temperaments
and playful companions that Sedona Borzoi produces.
Our Promise:
If you are looking for a quality puppy from a reputable breeder
and we do not have any puppies available, we will be
more than happy to refer you to another
breeder that does not practice
close linebreeding - inbreeding.
We value HEALTH above all in our breeding program,
therefore we have not and will not practice
tight linebreeding - inbreeding.
GENETICISTS HAVE PROVEN
That close linebreeding - inbreeding causes
Inbreeding Depression
which results in dogs that are:
- Smaller in size -
- Live fewer years -
- Are more suseptible to disease -
- Have smaller litters - Have difficulty conceiving -
At SEDONA BORZOI
We have a Vision to the future that breaks out of this
breeding philosophy and practice, insuring
the health and fertility of
our borzoi for years to come.
We practice an Assortative Mating Scheme
focusing on quality bred litters using sires and dams
that are matched by their strong health, excellent temperaments,
correct structure and complimentary phenotype.
Geneticists have proven that inbreeding produces
dogs that have underlying health, longevity and fertility challenges
that do not show up with testing offered by OFA.
While health testing is important, the
4 tests recommended through OFA are only a very
small part of a dog's overall genetic
health makeup.
Some breeders may tout on their websites that their borzoi
are OFA clear with these 4 tests. What you don't
see is how closely linebred they may be
which equals inbreeding. If this is so, their dogs will most
likely show the affects of Inbreeding Depression.

Be sure to ask any breeder you are considering
purchasing a puppy from what the COI %
is for the puppy's parents as well
as the puppy's litter.
This number is called the "Inbreeding Coefficient".
The Inbreeding Coefficient will let you know how tightly the puppy's parents
have been bred and whether you need to be concerned about
the problems associated with Inbreeding Depression.
"It is a proven fact that longevity, reproductive success,
and the immune system are all negatively affected
by even “moderate” degrees of inbreeding."
Quote from J. Jeffrey Bragg's article:
Canine Population Genetics in Practice:
Principles for the Breeder
