Sedona Borzoi

About Us

Yesterday

Hello, my name is Tamara Carey. I fell into the Borzoi world because of my love for Art Deco decor and art. As we all know, Borzoi graced the canvas of many artists during that period, which is how I originally became enthralled with their exquisite beauty.

I have always been a dog lover and grew up with several breeds as a child (boxer, standard poodle and husky). The first dogs of my own were rescue Brittanys.

My Borzoi life began in Northern California after finding a breeder who lived only fifteen minutes away! The first Borzoi that I ever met in person was a gorgeous, big, red and white boy at Leslie Gomez' kennel - BISS CH Zenovia High Wind Of Falkenar (Saxon), bred by Sherri Herr of Zenovia Kennels in Western Pennsylvania. While investigating Borzoi, I also met with Jacqueline Gregory (Somerset) to explore available rescues through Borzoi Rescue of Northern California. For many months I'm sure I drove Leslie and Jacqueline nuts trying to decide what I wanted, finally settling on a Saxon son - Falkenar Finishing Touch, who became my first Champion - "Niko".

As we all know we cannot have just one - so over the last fifteen years I have been owned by eleven beautiful Borzoi and one Belgian Tervuren. I learned to show in Northern California with the help of many Borzoi friends: Leslie Gomez, Susan Mallonee and Julie Hagen to name just a few. All my dogs have been owner handled to their championships, which makes the process even more exciting!

Today

We have been living in Washington State for over ten years about forty miles southeast of Seattle in a little town named Maple Valley nestled in the Cascade foothills. Our village "Lake Forest Estates" is built on bluffs above Lake Wilderness. With one-third of an acre for our kids to play on at home and a fully fenced 10-acre lake front park, along with over 15 miles of wooded trails for hiking, the dogs have plenty of opportunity to stay in top condition while having fun.

My family: my husband Jeff - whom I call the "dog whisperer" because of his gifted way with animals, along with our nine Borzoi, one Terv and two cats, live happily near all of the Puget Sound Borzoi friends we have met over the past eight years.

My kennel name, "Sedona Borzoi", was created out of a love for the beautiful Arizona resort visited every year as child. I remember being lost in its entrancing beauty, which is how I feel about Borzoi. They take my breath away!

Tomorrow

With the success of my first litter out of CH Rising Star Kristofer Kikuji and Int'l CH Mariza Vamp, I am embarking on a journey that will continue with avid showing of the Sedona "Storm" litter. We have also started a selective breeding program to continue the lovely type, magnificent structure and fabulous temperament we have been able to establish with this first breeding.
